Leslie and Joey met through a volunteer trip to China to serve North Korean orphans with their church. While preparing for the trip, they wanted to get to know their teammates a little better so Joey and Leslie decided to grab drinks together. After that first night out, they started dating right away!
Joey said he knew we would be married before we even finished our first drink!
Leslie knew he was the ONE while they were on the trip to china.
I saw him interacting with the children there and saw his caring heart. I knew that I could spend the rest of my life with him.
Fun fact, we were only a few months into dating at that point, but we already knew that we had found the one! On the plane ride home, we were already discussing our future home and children!
Leslie’s top three favorite things about Joey:
- He is extremely loving. Almost at all times, he is holding my hand, hugging my shoulder, somehow showing me he’s there.
- He’s caring. Even when things are inconvenient for him, if it benefits the other person, he’ll do it.
- He loves me for who I am. I can be goofy and crazy at times, and every time I just see him smiling at me.
Joey’s top three favorite things about Leslie:
- I feel unconditionally loved by Leslie. I have my bad days too, but she’s still always speaking from a loving heart.
- I love the fact that she’s one of the weirdest and hilarious people I’ve met.
- I love that we are perfect complements to one another.
A few days before Christmas in 2015, Joey told Leslie that he wanted to take her on a trip for the holidays to Galena, IL—where they celebrated their first anniversary.
On Christmas Eve, we were on our way to dinner at our bed and breakfast and he brought me to the beautifully decorated living room of the house. My whole family was there holding signs that read, “Will you marry me” with Joey holding the last sign. He sat me down next to the Christmas tree and proposed.
When it came down to finding a place to get married, they knew The Haight was the right place for them.
We loved the atmosphere of The Haight and felt that it fit our personalities very well. We loved the rustic feel of it all. (We also LOVED Briana! Insert awesome shout out)!
The best part of the wedding day for Leslie was when they did their First Look.
I saw his face completely light up and I felt like a little princess with butterflies in my stomach. Then he came and gave me the biggest hug and it felt like I was home.
Leslie’s advice to newly engaged couples is that even though wedding planning can be stressful, it’s important to use this time to grow as a couple.
Work on learning to serve the other person first and listening to the other person’s opinions. The wedding day isn’t about things being perfect, but the celebration of your relationship.
At the end of the day, it isn’t going to matter if one area of decorations don’t look the way you want it to. You’ll be busy looking at the other person.
