Alissa knew Tom Smith as a guy who was always having parties in high school. He and her older brother Nick had mutual friends and to Tom she was just his little sister. Years later they “met” at a friends 30th birthday party. Alissa was dressed as a Tamagotchi and caught Tom’s eye, he didn’t know he was supposed to dress up, but he partied the night away with Alissa and friends! A few months later they met again at an Elgin bar, thanks to mutual friends, drinks, and good cover bands they continued to meet frequently.
Their first date was in his truck; they parked at a park on the Fox River and talked for hours while they shared wine. The first time they said I love you was at a Wilco show. The first five years will filled with traveling, concerts, Mexican food, and the purchase of their first home, and ended with a proposal. Tom proposed after a bike ride along the Fox River that ended in the same park where they had their first date!
Tom and Alissa truly love one another and you cannot help but smile when you see how happy they are together! She loves him for; his sense of humor, dependability, loyalty, organization, musical talent, sweet dance moves, and most importantly the fact that he can dunk a basketball! He loves her for; her adventurous nature, persistence, sense of humor, and passion.
They chose The Haight because they both loved the idea of getting married in their hometown. The venue was unique on its own and they were able to personalize it. They loved that they were allowed (and encouraged) to add personal touches, Alissa said, “The Haight staff helped create our dream wedding. Briana was the best! From our initial conversations to the days following the wedding, she was friendly, efficient, and very professional. We received many compliments on the setup, decor and flow of the evening, and it was all thanks to Briana’s organization and execution.”
The best parts of the day were their first look and first dance. In those two moments they kept thinking is this real?!
So many things made the day special for them:
-Having everyone they love in one place
-Enjoying the weather and being able to take pictures outside with their bridal party, in November!
-Alissa’s dad singing during the ceremony and her brother officiating.
-Seeing all of their visions come together
-The dancing, they had a blast and we have the pictures to prove it!
When planning Alissa and Tom encourage everyone to find out what is important to them. Music and cuisine were their top priority and everything else was filled in around those choices. They spent lots of quality time in their backyard around the fire-pit working on the menu, pie choices, and music selection!
